In 1893, moissanite was discovered by the Nobel Prize-winning French chemist Dr.Henri Moissan while examining rock samples at the site of a massive meteorite strike in Arizona. The gemstones are so clear, that he initially mistook them for diamonds.

Moissanite measures a 9.25 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness, which assesses a gem’s resistance to surface scratching. Its score is so good, that it makes moissanite one of the hardest substances on earth, second only to diamond. Because of this, it’s highly unlikely that moissanite will ever break, scratch, or chip.
Though classic moissanite is not colorless, Charles & Colvard Forever One™ moissanite is completely colorless, which is comparable to D, E, F diamond coloring.
Brilliance, which refers to the white light reflected back to the eye, is a good measure for how much a diamond will ‘sparkle’. Moissanite disperses light very well and is actually more brilliant than a diamond. Additionally, moissanite is less likely to attract grease or dirt than a diamond and should keep the ‘sparkle’ longer in between cleanings.
